SUB Bass

My first bass…kinda. Back in high school, I acquired my first bass from Tyler. He sold me a no-name brand bass, which, unfortunately, was lent to someone else and never found its way back to me. Fast forward to 2013, two guys, both juggling their hectic med-school schedules, invited me to join them for some impromptu jam sessions. With both of them proficient on guitars, I decided to seize the opportunity and explore the world of bass playing.

Just to expand on these two guys a little. They were friends of my then-girlfriend and both wanted to record their music and jam a little before getting matched to their final programs. I liked their styles but one of them really liked to change tempos between chorus and verses which I had to really work with him on. He said it was intentional but my money is on his lack of practice with a metronome. We played one show and spend a couple days in a studio. By the time we made progress they ran out of money and time. I doubt they ever finished that project.

Back to the bass: At the time, I was well aware of the pricier options, particularly the renowned Ernie Ball Stingray. However, I opted for a more budget-friendly choice, believing it would suffice for the task at hand. Little did I know that this bass would play a pivotal role in the recording of two albums: "Instruments For Declination" and "Songs Within A Collapsed Star."

Today, this bass has mostly taken a backseat, quietly collecting dust in my collection as I've gravitated towards my P-Bass for most things. Nevertheless, the presence of that low 5th string keeps me from parting ways with it, always ready in case a song arises that calls for its unique and distinctive voice.
